Review of Control of Trade in Endangered Species regulations - 16/10/2007

VEGA Comments on a Defra consultation on review of CITES regulations regarding points of import / export of endangered species.
VEGA Comments on the Defra Consultation on the review and update of the Control of Trade in Endangered Species (Designation of Ports of Entry) Regulations 1985:

We suggest that Option 3 is the best option, subject to there being adequate inspection and veterinary resources and services available at each of the Border Inspection Posts.

Whilst Option 2 (designating Heathrow as the only suitable port for import or export of CITES-listed animals) might focus resources better, it could also result in excessive transportation of the animals in question.
