VEGA says farm animal welfare has informed VEGA’s interests in various aspects that were unsatisfactory and it rightly criticises responses of the government and animal welfare organisations in getting hardly any good done. We have constantly criticised lack of control in catering and in the welfare that should have been presented more forcefully by societies such as the RSPCA and BVA, all of whom have laughed off active demos for the animals.
Concern for welfare of animals can easily be lost in government actions, for example in restructuring FAWC and sacking of ministers, so the cause is postponed to another parliament. There are other matters like this and it is disgraceful the government is acting this way. Congratulations to the Veterinary Record for blowing the whistle this way.
