We are amazed at the small preponderance of vets asking for a ban on horse firing
Admittedly this ban was argued for by the BEVA (British Equine Veterinary Association), which is mainly limited to equine practices. But it reveals that amongst vets there are still animals that escape any kindness or care for their welfare. Princess Anne appears to have contributed nothing to the debate though she has a great interest in horse matters.
However, the concern over animals’ wellbeing is taken away by the practice which is used for a dubious surgical procedure; causing almost certainly great pain and suffering and which is done with great commercial interest.
It raises the question of the ability of BVA to keep the whole of the profession involved in the welfare and wellbeing of animals.
