Salutary Food from Salubrious Farming - 21/05/2010

WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION IN AN HOUR OR TWO’S TARGETED LEAFLETING

THE BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND
SATURDAY 29th AND SUNDAY 30th MAY IN BRISTOL

The change in government requires urgent action to warn the public and Special Interest Groups and NGOs such as Organics, Environmentalists, and Animal  Welfarists of threats to progress reforms won by campaigners of all sorts in the actions of DEFRA, the Food Standards Agency, Department of Health and the Farming and Food Industry, integrating with corollaries in diet and health.

Grow Food, not Feed.  Cut down Consumption of Meat and Dairy.  Eat more Fruit and Veg……Our freely available Portfolio of Eating Plans describes ways of implementing these reforms, with individual and corporate, nutrionally-appraised recipes and advice, and general benefit.  We note that the Soil Association’s headquarters is in Bristol.

Our leaflet details challenges and purposes.

Immediate issues are:

• Strengthening, rather repealing, the anti-hunting Act (eg by controls on shooting, fishing (including intensified farming), effects on wildlife (and “managed” wildlife) and other aspects of intensified dairying, as well as blood sports (including game).

• Culling of badgers and bTB.  Culling (most of which is associated with  dairying) is being allowed in Wales; in the rest of the UK farmers might be appeased if a vaccine proves successful.  (It would need immunization of all the badger population.  This will be a test of the new government’s policies on agriculture, farming, subsidies etc).

PLEASE CONTACT US TO TELL US WHEN WHEN YOU COULD JOIN US IN BRISTOL THIS WEEKEND.  WE WILL POST THE FINAL DETAILS ON OUR WEBSITE, AS SOON AS WE CAN ACT ON THE INFORMATION. WE CAN PROVIDE THE LEAFLETS, WHICH ARE GOING OUT URGENTLY BY THE THOUSAND.

We began this year with a Lentils-for-Lent campaign directed to churches within a 5-mile radius of VEGA’s headquarters in North West London.  Further targeted and general ploys are in preparation.  Tell your friends and keep in touch and give us your suggestions.
