“Due to the cruelty surrounding the slaughter of all animals for the food industry, this meeting requires that food which has involved any mental or physical distress to an animal should not be served at future Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals General Meetings”.

So runs a progressive motion proposed at the next RSPCA AGM on Saturday, 24 June 2006, in London.

At last! We see hope that the RSPCA will demonstrate for “cruelty free” food signs of the corporate and individual consumer power that it manifested for “cruelty free” cosmetics; and thereby impress the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and other organizations excluding food animals from their purview that this form of practicable animal welfare can be observed at the cash point at the supermarket, restaurant, or retailer, with the exercise of a purposeful choice.

The manifesto on our website and other material indicate feasible and salutary reforms to the common good that can be pursued in a lifestyle more comprehensive than AGMs where the caterers provide a good meal – say, from the Portfolio now recommended on good authority by doctors and nutritionists for attractive diets – that declare a gathering aversion to objectionable components such as meats, fish, poultry, dairy, and eggs.
